This study synthesizes the literature on corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a determinant of environmental performance, both directly and through the mediating mechanisms of environmental strategy and green capability, among manufacturing companies in Indonesia. Using a qualitative literature review/document analysis method, theoretical and empirical sources published between 2000 and 2022 were analyzed, framed by the natural resource-based view and motivated by an unpublished undergraduate thesis proposal examining manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The review indicates that CSR has no significant direct effect on environmental performance, but is consistently and positively related to environmental strategy and green capability, each of which in turn significantly and positively predicts environmental performance. Seven research propositions are advanced, and a conceptual framework linking CSR to environmental performance, both directly and through environmental strategy and green capability, is proposed to guide future empirical validation among manufacturing companies in Indonesia.
